On Saturday 10/3/09 I attended the 1st Annual Long Beach Comic Convention. Although I may not a huge fan of comic books, video games & all those geeky things, I do enjoy art, creativity and good action adventure movies. Long Beach held its first ever comic convention, my boyfriend and I decided to go check it out and take some photos. It truly was amazing to see how many comics there are now, along with all the characters that have been created through the years. Many people came dressed as their favorite comic character, which is what the conventions are known for. We saw comic books, toys, artist, video games, movies, technology, wrestlers and a few famous faces. I was not able to take pictures of the celebrities as most were there pimping them selves out and selling pictures and autographs. We saw Lou Ferrgrino, Anthony Michael Hall, Nick Simmons with his mom & sister (they were the only celebs I got pics of) many others that are involved in sci-fi movies or shows. Tyrese Gibson was scheduled to be there as well, to promote is comic book. He never made it and canceled from what I hear. I actually got to meet him a week earlier, so if you really want to see him check out my post on Tyrese at Compton HS.
We also were able to see a movie that is going to be released on DVD called Trick'r Treat. It was cool horror movie, in the style of Tales from the Crypt and Creepshow. Over all I have to say I enjoyed my 1st ever experience at a comic con, I guess I was expecting a bunch of nerdy dudes just walking around drooling over their comic books. I was pleasantly surprised to see the diversity of people, young, old, women, families and of course there were a few geeky dudes drooling over comic books. Take a look a my pictures and hope you enjoy what you see and maybe next year I'll catch you at the 2nd Annual Long Beach Comic Con!

Is this what its like to be a Paparazzi?
So lately I have been lacking in my blogging and photography post. Works been busy and a bit hectic. I try to carry my DSLR camera with me as much as possible, you just never know where your going to be and get a great photo op! So this week I was working at Compton HS and a great photo opportunity came up. The actor/singer Tyrese Gibson was at Compton HS doing a motivational speech to the students. The night before I had just taken my DSLR out of my car, which is so typical the one day I needed it my camera I didn't have it. I was having a mega TMZ paparazzi moment, all I could think of is I need to get some pictures. Luckily I always carry my handy dandy Sony Cybershot point and shoot, so although I didn't take the greatest pictures. I was able to capture the moment. It was interesting trying to get a good shot amongst all the people crowding to get close to Tyrese. It made think of all the paparazzi, you know dudes from TMZ and other agencies. Although most celebrities hate paparazzi, it is a hard job trying to maneuver around to get that one golden shot of the celebrity. So check out my pictures and let me know, do you think I could be a paparazzi?

Retro Row on 4th Street
On August 22, 2009 I went down the street from my apartment to Long Beach's Retro Row sidewalk sale. Retro Row is on 4th street between Junipero and Cherry Ave and is a eclectic collection of vintage shops, restaurants, bookstore, cafe & movie theater. All shops are independently own, which carry unique and interesting items. Sidewalk sale was fun, I captured some pictures to show the mood and people enjoying another beautiful Saturday in Long Beach.

Nature Calls
Well now that spring is here and summer right around the corner, I have been taking pictures of all the beauty around me. Flowers are blooming and birds are singing. I have been practicing with taking close up pictures with macro settings. I don't have a macro lens yet, but I think the pictures look good. You be the judge and check out my shots of all the pretty flowers.

Viva Las Vegas!
I was in Vegas for Memorial Day and was very excited to get some good pictures from a city I love. Being from Los Angeles, most people have been to Vegas and see the usual Vegas. I decide to take pictures of a few different views of Las Vegas. I used all manual setting and no flash, all things I learned from web tutorials and my handy dandy Canon "how to" book. Hope you enjoy my Photo Bytes. Please feel free to comment and tell me what you think. I appreciate any tips and suggestions on how to improve my photography

Shoreline Village, Long Beach
It's be a little over a week since my Canon DSLR arrived, been taken picture almost everyday. Still learning the technical aspects of the Canon, thanks to many online tutorials and the owners manual, I've learn a lot already in this short time. Here a few sample of picture I took at Shoreline Village in Long Beach. I think I need to get a Flickr account, so I can share all my pictures. These small pictures don't really do them justice.
(I have opened a Picasa Web Albums account,so this post have been revised as of 6/8/09)

1st Entry
Lately I been contemplating buying a new camera and getting more serious about photography. Always having a love photography, I decide to go for it and purchase an entry level digital DSLR. I reviewed many cameras online and checked them out at many local retailers, finally made my choice. I chose the Canon EOS Rebel XS/1000D, which was closer to my budget and had all the features I need. Another reason why I made this purchase is wanting to pursue a new career, photography. Currently being unemployed I have had plenty of time to look for a new job, not finding anything that paid enough or even interested me. I thought to my self, why go work for someone else, why can't I start my own business and have financial independence. Many people talk about doing what they love and the money will come to you because you are passionate about that one thing. I think I found my love! The first day my Canon DSLR came in the mail, I was so excited & couldn't wait to go test it. I'm still learning to use all the wonderful functions of my camera, as well as the art of photography. I will blog about my adventures in photography, as well as post samples of pictures. I welcome any comments, suggestions, or tips to help me become a great photographer.
